Quiet Meetings

We all love meetings when the members really jump in and contribute.  Their ideas are flowing and we just add a little bit of guidance to keep conversation going and make sure everyone gets in.  It's a beautiful thing.  This week wasn't one of those weeks! (Fun Without Food)  First course of action:  Blame the topic! "No one wants to talk about this!"  "We run out of things to say in......2 minutes?  1 minute?"  "Quick, think of something they DO want to talk about!"

Hmmmm.... maybe what we've actually hit on is a topic that challenges our members.  Come to think of it, I couldn't come up with all that many things I do for fun that aren't centered around food.  As I was preparing my meeting, how long did it take me to think about my own activities?  What if I was in a meeting and someone asked me that question?  Would there be a loooooong silence?  But would it be valuable, if that silence just hung there a bit until I figured something out?

My take from this week:  (figured out well into the week, by the way)  the topic really did challenge our members to a new line of thinking.  It wasn't easy to come up with ideas, or ways to change things quickly in the days ahead.  It took some thinking, concentration, pondering......all meaning it was a little quiet in the room, would have been more fun for everyone just to change the subject and move on to something easy.  But how valuable to have a new challenge, a new path to follow!  Maybe that silence was golden.....

But thank goodness, next week's topic is Fun Snacking!  Don't want to have to think toooo hard 2 weeks in a row!

You Make The Difference!
